Mud Messages

March 20, 2016

With all the recent rain... The Grade 4/5s went outside with sentences, poetry, and quotes to see if they could leave a message in mud for someone else to find.  We learned a lot about mud, soil and sand in the last several months.  Which mud is easiest to read?  We tried to scribe into the different kinds of mud with sticks or popscicle sticks. Getting dirty is fun and helps your own micro biome in your body. We also found many things to concern us outside to investigate.  We learned that algae and slime is actually one of the world's most important things because algae creates most of  the world's oxygen 70 - 80 %.

Inspirational poem to help with writing - post mud activity.  Poem by Snyder 1969

Poem to Mud

Poem to mud— Poem to ooze

Patted in pies, or coating your shoes.

Poem to slooze… Poem to crud—

Fed by a leak, or spread by a flood.

Wherever, whenever, wherever it goes,

Stirred by your finger, or stained by your toes,

There’s nothing sloppier, slipperier, floppier,

There’s nothing slickier, stickier, thickier,

There’s nothing quickier to make grown-ups sickier,

Trulier coolier

Than wonderful mud.
